Background

From the 1983 Kenner Toy Fair Catalog:

Used by the forces of DARTH VADER. Pretend "crash" Imperial TIE FIGHTER into asteroids or anyflat surface and it breaks apart in 4 pieces. Imperial TIE FIGHTER also has a button to "crash" vehicle in pretend battles in air. Reassembly is fast and easy because all parts are connected by a cord. Also includes the unique die cast Imperial TIE FIGHTER pilot that fits into the cockpit.

The Tie Fighter is one of several Micro Collection vehicles that has the special "crash" feature. The others vehicles include the X-wing and Snowspeeder. All these vehicles came with special "battle damaged" stickers.

Features

This vehicle has one of the coolest features of any of the Kenner Star Wars toys. It has a special "crash" feature that allows it to break into 4 pieces, to simulate a collision in space and then can be restored to normal. This is done by pushing on a button in the rear of the ship which allows it to seperate. The Tie fighter is held together by an internal cord that also allows it to snap easily back into place.

The Tie Fighter also has a cockpit that opens and closes for easy access to the pilot.
